All shame is not bad. When shame begin to interfere with your identity, then. it becomes a problem. Shame focuses more on something I am that feels wrong. Shame attacks the very core of our soul. It is often affiliated with guilt, but we must learn to separate the two. Guilt focuses on something that I have done that feels wrong. Often time people have a hard time separating the two, (shame and guilt). Shame is nothing new, but it was in the beginning with Adam and Eve. In Genesis 3:7 we are told that Adam and Eve covered their shame because of not obeying God. Their problem was what they did with their shame. They took it upon themselves to cover up, run, and hide. They turned to their own resources and sought to cover up their shame; whereas they should have admitted their sin and exposed their shame to God, allowing God’s grace to be enough for them. Hiding shame, whether legitimate or illegitimate, intensifies its heat, as pure oxygen intensifies a fire. Shame needs to be brought into the light, especially the light of Gods truth.
