Many people deal with guilt and shame throughout their lifetime. Oftentimes guilt and shame are used together interchangeably. Shame is a feeling of regret, inadequacy, sadness, dishonor or disgrace. When dealing with shame, often times there is no distinction between an action and self. Shame causes us to run and hide. It occupies a great deal of ones consciousness. When people are dealing with shame, they are operating outside of their true identity. They are believing the lie of what people have said about them and not what God has said about them according to the word of God. On the other hand Guilt is actually the fact of having committed a specified or implied offense or crime. How do you get healed from Guilt and shame?
1- First you have to own it. Be honest with yourself that you are dealing with guilt or shame. God can’t heal what you don’t reveal.
2- Identify the root cause of guilt and shame. Begin to forgive those who have caused you to feel guilty or shameful. Also forgive yourself for holding onto guilt and shame.
3- Identify if you are shaming others because of the shame that you are allowing to be your portion in this season of your life.
4- Shame is very contagious. Create and keep healthy boundaries. Often times when you set boundaries, people think you are holding a grudge. Once you set boundaries, make sure you keep them until you are stronger.
5- The enemy recognize what shames you and often attack you where you are weak. Begin to recognize satan’s attack and counterattack his schemes against you.
6- Begin to know your identity and walk in your God given authority and not Guilt and Shame.
I am not ashamed of anything I’ve done. It might be gossip to you, but its a testimony to me. Now run and tell that!!
